Auxiliary to United Hospital Center
The Auxiliary to United Hospital Center is always eager to recruit new qualified volunteers (male and female adults) to assist with the many services provided to patients. Teenagers (age 14-18) interested in becoming volunteers must see their school guidance counselor for an application in April. Although numerous opportunities exist for involvement, here are just a few:

Patient Visitation:
Volunteers visit designated patients who may need someone to talk to or a little cheering up.

Information Desk:
Information desk volunteers answer questions visitors and callers have about the location of patients and hospital services. They also sort patient mail. Good phone and computer skills are needed for this job.

Hospitality:
Volunteers transport patients being admitted or discharged from the hospital. They also deliver patient mail and run errands for the Admissions Department staff.

Book Cart:
Volunteers distribute books and magazines to patients.

Central Registration:
Volunteers greet patients who come for testing or to be admitted. They also begin the registration process for patients.

Gift Shop:
Volunteers work in this retail environment as cashier, stocking, selling and ordering supplies. The proceeds from the Gift Shop are used to purchase needed equipment for the hospital.

UTCC:
Volunteers in this area work with the elderly and those recovering from surgery. Have fun calling Bingo or helping with a seasonal party.

Golden Spoons:
Volunteers help patients who need assistance with meals. Services include passing out trays, helping cut food, and feeding. Training provided.

People's Hospice Volunteers
Give a few hours each week to People's Hospice and see just how much you gain from helping others. You'll help patients, their families, visitors or the hospice staff. You might work closely with the patients and their families by providing companionship, love and understanding or you might help with the clerical work at the office, work on special projects, help with fund raising, the speakers' bureau or assist with the bereavement program. Call today and become one of our much-needed volunteers.

For more information about People's Hospice Volunteer Opportunities, call 304/624-2424, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
