Nuclear Meckels Imaging

Your physician has referred you to the Diagnostic Services Department at United Hospital Center for a procedure known as a Meckels Scan.

The indications for Meckels Imaging is unexplained GI bleeding in children. You should NOT have anything to eat or drink for four (4) hours prior to the exam and you should NOT have had any barium study within 5-7 days of your Meckels scan.

After arriving in the Diagnostic Services Department, you will be asked to lie on a bed flat on your back with the nuclear camera positioned over your abdominal area. You will receive an injection in a vein in your arm of a small amount of radioactive material. Imaging will begin immediately and continue for approximately 45 minutes.

LENGTH: Approximately 1 hour

If you are pregnant, or think you might be, tell your doctor and the technologist BEFORE your exam.
