Nuclear Gallium Imaging
Your physician has referred you to the Diagnostic Imaging Department at United Hospital Center for a procedure known as a Gallium Scan.
Gallium Imaging is a widely used procedure to aid the physician in demonstrating specific primary carcinomas and their metastatic sites, as well as to localize, stage, and follow-up inflammatory disease states.
Gallium Imaging requires several days to complete, so you will be asked to return to the Diagnostic Imaging Department multiple times for images.
You will be scheduled initially for the injection of Gallium, which is injected into a vein in your arm. This procedure takes only 10-15 minutes. You will then be asked to RETURN to the department in 6, 24, 48, 72 and possibly 96 hours for images.
LENGTH: Each session takes approximately 1 hour to complete.
If you are pregnant, or think you might be, tell your doctor and the technologist
BEFORE your exam.
