Nuclear Bone Imaging

Your physician has referred you to the Diagnostic Imaging Department at United Hospital Center for a procedure known as a bone scan.

Radionuclide Bone Imaging is used in the search for metastatic carcinoma sites in bones, primary bone tumor, osteomyelitis, arthritis, metabolic bone disease, and suspected fractures.

You will be injected with a small amount of radioactive material which is tagged with a "bone seeking agent." You may leave the Diagnostic Imaging Department after your injection, but you must RETURN approximately 3 hours later. When you return, you will need to change into a hospital gown and you will be asked to empty your bladder completely. You will be placed in front of an imaging camera and a series of pictures will be taken.

LENGTH: Imaging time approximately 30 minutes.
