Cathetergram
Your physician has referred you to the Diagnostic Services Department at United Hospital Center to check the position and function of your Perma Catheter.
The purpose of the examination is to show blood clots in the veins of the arm or to show blood clots at the tip of the catheter.
After arriving in the Diagnostic Services Department, you will be asked to sign a consent form. You will then be placed on a radiographic table.
The examination is performed by injecting contrast medium or x-ray dye into the vein or catheter. Then the study is filmed using rapid x-ray techniques.
The risks involved with this examination include: infection, reaction to the contrast media (x-ray dye), and/or possible dislodging of a present blood clot.
Your physician feels the benefits of performing this procedure outweigh the risks and would aid in the diagnosis of your medical condition.
LENGTH: Approximately 30 minutes
If you are pregnant, or think you might be, tell your doctor and the technologist BEFORE your exam.
